- Four generations and visionary change: a case study of First United Methodist Church: greater unity in the midst of sixty-seven percent growth
- Abstract
- This study of First United Methodist in Canyon, Texas sought causes for the sixty-seven percent attendance growth in this decade. A discovery that a generation of members was missing from elected leadership led to generational insights and how adding this generation to leadership impacted the church. Decisions concerning building, staff, and contemporary worship also impacted growth. Research isolated four paramount factors in the church: predominance of prayer, pastoral leadership, drawing four generations into leadership, and unity throughout the congregation. These factors enabled the congregation to carry on the work of Jesus more effectively and resulted in the attendance rising from 340 to 568 individuals.
