Abstract
  • The purpose of this project was to design, implement, and evaluate a model to develop leaders at Monumental Baptist Church, Jersey City, NJ. Two different models were tested: first, a model based on the author's understanding of how Jesus developed leaders; second, a model from the Industrial Areas Foundation. On the surface the two models have similarities; however, there are points of difference in terms of method, theology, ecclesiology, and ethical principle. Thus the IAF model is effective in the political/social action arena, but modifications are needed to make the model work in the African-American Christian Church.
