  • This thesis examines Christian unity as a vision of the church and the impact of the Consultation on Church Union (COCU) upon ecumenism. Christian unity and disunity are presented in an historical and developmental overview. Four current models of ecumenism are outlined in contrast to COCU's covenanting model. A questionnaire was used to gauge grassroots awareness of COCU, concern for Christian unity, and openess to COCU's proposal. Resulting data indicate a desire for Christian unity (with some latitude in its definition), little knowledge of COCU, and an audience receptive to COCU's work. When presented, COCU's model was well received.
