  • The response of people to preachers arises out of something more basic than subject or delivery. It is rooted in temperament. People listen depending upon whether or not the preacher is proclaiming the Word in a way that has integrity to their way of thinking. Using the Meyers-Briggs understanding of temperaments, preachers are challenged to take seriously the different ways people have of hearing sermons. Data from one Lutheran congregation, practical suggestions and a sermon for people of all temperaments are included. It is possible for preachers to speak so that people of all temperaments can hear.
