Abstract
  • The purpose of this thesis is to listen to the voices talking about teaching (and learning) biblical Hebrew. These include the Scripture itself, the theologians from Origen, Augustine and Jerome to Johnathan Edwards, and finally today's students and professors. The conclusion drawn from all sources is that the biblical story is the reason for studying Hebrew. The sooner students become involved in reading the Hebrew Bible, and the more successful they are, the more important Hebrew study will be to them. Success in seminary will hopefully encourage their post-seminary use of Hebrew.
