Abstract
  • The demographic profile of those who experience homelessness has changed to include mothers with their children. The thesis of this investigation is that pastoral care can be supportive and productive for families, especially during the experience of homelessness. The setting was an emergency shelter that was established for short-term service to women with children from infancy through adolescence. Using ethnographic methods with extensive narrative from the participants, mothers often offered glimpses of resilience in their lives as they shared with a pastoral care provider. Pastoral care in shelter settings may help identify past strengths for use into the future.
