- Abstract
- This project investigates the relation of conscious God representations--Loving, Observant, Absent, Wrathful--to a person's preference for a 'spiritual' or 'nonspiritual' alcohol addiction recovery program. Participants in 12-step programs register a score significantly higher statistically on representations of God as Loving than do those in Rational Recovery. Participants in Rational Recovery and other nonspiritual groups tend to score significantly higher on representations of God as Wrathful. The project finds that images of God, sex, and religious denomination can contribute to choices of recovery programs.
