Abstract
  • This ministry research project explores expository preaching as a means of teaching Christian doctrine. Chapter one outlines the purpose, goals, rational, and research methodology. Chapter two provides the biblical, historical and theological basis for using expository preaching to teach Christian doctrine. Examples include Ezra, Nehemiah, Peter, Paul, John Chrysostom, William Perkins, and John A. Broadus. The theological basis defines the importance of exposition, as well as the necessity of Christian doctrine. Chapter three discusses expository preaching as a teaching vehicle, followed by several aspects of adult learning. It concludes with the combination to expository preaching and adult learning theory to effect change. Chapters four and five present the elements of the ministry project: the focus groups and pre-test and post-test questionnaire used to measure the effectiveness of sermons.
