  • This project was a six-week combination of sermons and Bible studies that focused on the sacraments of the United Methodist Church as foundations for creating and establishing a sense of community and place within a congregation. The sermons and Bible studies were designed to be the first steps in a discipleship model that would help new disciples as well as established congregation members to understand Wesleyan doctrine and theology in connection with sacraments. Learning group participants showed significant gains in their understanding of how the sacraments are the foundation of the early Church's and early Methodist movements' understandings of community.
