Abstract
  • The places we spend time affect us. What might the preacher learn from paying close attention to his or her own past and current surroundings? What stories do locale, landscape, history, and even building structure of a congregation have to tell? Research gathered from three ELCA Lutheran congregations, interviews of parishioners, and insight gathered from books written by environmental psychologists and preachers informed the writing of this thesis. This project explores the connection between place, faith and preaching and concludes with observing personal and creative storytelling and how a preacher's awareness of self and context grants authenticity in preaching.
