Abstract
  • Using a case study of the volunteer religious liaison experience at the University of Delaware, the author will examine the critical contribution to the entire campus community this position makes. Using a participant-observer approach, the author seeks to demonstrate that the separation of church and state does not prevent the employment of a religious or theologically trained person to serve state universities in a position of religious liaison. This thesis will also argue for an establishment of a staff position of a religious liaison that the University of Delaware should have through an office of religious and spiritual life.
