Abstrakt

This project seeks to improve youth retention at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by restructuring the confirmation program to provide greater continuity for ongoing participation, more clearly communicating the intended purpose of confirmation as an initiation rather than a graduation. This continuity was achieved by combining confirmation instruction with Sunday school, combining pre-confirmation and post-confirmation classes, and shifting evaluation methods for confirmation readiness to promote real achievement of meaningful goals rather than jumping through hoops. Results of the project were insufficient to form definitive conclusions but do support and encourage further efforts.
