Abstract
  • Spiritual companionship empowers individuals to become co-responsible for the faith life of the Christian community. In order to test this thesis, Roman Catholic neophytes and 243 coordinators were surveyed. Theological reflection on the responses to the survey and subsequent interviews held with people who are implementing the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults point up the responsibility that parish leaders have to engender the communities of empowerment similar to the small communities of the early church. The intense community life of the first Christians is a model for catechumenate formation groups and base communities.
