Abstract
  • Shaped by a literary-critical viewpoint that stresses the integrity of the text, this project invited adult listeners in a small-group (8-12) parish setting to hear anew God's word in the seminal biblical stories of Genesis. The group explored ways in which the canonical text and its claims confront, interpret, and reshape the individual stories of contemporary believers. The works of Frederiick Buechner provided perspective, commentary, and a medium of exchange between the biblical world and the world of contemporary listeners. Results suggest that narrative theology offers provocative resources for adult faith development in parish settings.
