  • This study asks whether pastoral counseling is a part of the saving activity of God. Biblical, theological and personal definitions of salvation provide a faith basis with which the author relates the perspectives and methods of Transactional Analysis and gestalt therapy, in particular. A processive, rather than a static, view of salvation provides the basic theological perspective for relating pastoral counseling and salvation. James E Loder's four-dimensional model by which he explored the dynamics of convictional experiences is criticized and expanded by process theology's perspective. An adapted Loderian model then provides a four-dimensional structure through which the author analyzes four case studies of psychotherapy processes and dynamics. The conclusion of the study is that pastoral counseling does participate in the process and dynamics of salvation.
