Abstract
  • The purpose of this thesis is to explore whether the state of discipleship in the modern Western church has drifted from the biblical standard as set forth by the ministry of Christ, the mandate of Christ, the model of the church as seen in the book of Acts, and the ministry of the Apostle Paul. In order to gauge whether there has been such a drift, the author of this thesis has decided to use the local church context of Memphis, TN, as a litmus test for the Western church at large, and has invited a group of churches representative of the diverse church context in Memphis to participate. The conclusion of this thesis reveals that there has indeed been a drift among many churches in Memphis from the biblical standard of discipleship. An institute has been created to help church leadership revive biblical-model discipleship.
