Abstract

A great deal of the Western evangelistic efforts among Russian youth has resulted in nominal joiners rather than true disciples of Jesus Christ. Part of the reason for this is that evangelists trying to reach this group have not taken the time to discover much about the religious context of these young people. The purpose of this book is to inform Westerners and Russians trained by Westerners regarding the spiritual experiences described by young Russian converts within their churches and organizations. The book presents the central religious beliefs, understanding, attitudes and behaviors that formed the background of the young Russians prior to hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition, it allows young Russians to describe their own experiences of the evangelistic process and to explain their experience of conversion as they understand it. The results of this study should help evangelists in Russia to utilize approaches that take into account the Russian youth context, with the effect that there will be more solid, fruitful converts in new evangelical churches.
