Abstract
  • Based on earlier research with Black youth and language, the author has investigated the problem of ministry with Black youth by instituting a model for ministry. New Beginnings is a new paradigm for ministry with Black youth. It is a non-traditional church organized around three primary aspects related to Black youth: language, life issues, and liturgy. The church intentionally speaks the language of Black youth, deals honestly with their life issues (poverty, addictions, sexuality), all within the context of a youth-centered liturgy. This project has proven the viability of this paradigm as a vehicle for ministry with Black youth.
