- Abstract
- The purpose of this ministry research project was to provide educational material for nurses at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee. The material will assist nurses in the recognition of and response to the spiritual concerns of patients. Chapter Two examined the theological and biblical dimensions of the spiritual care of patients. Chapter Three presented a psychology of the spiritual care of the patient, focusing on the key role of the nurse. The emphasis was placed upon referral to the Department of Pastoral Care. Chapter Four described the process of assembling a Spiritual Care Notebook to serve as a resource for nurses and to be placed on each nursing unit at BHET. The final chapter was an evaluation and conclusion of the project. There is reason to be hopeful that once nurses are given resources and training they will grow more comfortable with the role of responding to spiritual concerns.
