  • Since 1988, internal struggles of theology and culture have damaged the previously harmonious union of the United Church of Canada with the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Bermuda. With the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Bermuda half its former size, and the United Church of Canada struggling with shrinking resources, both question the value of union. This project proposes changes which address past wounds and will enable the relationship to fulfill its original ecumenical mission of proclaiming Christ's ministry of reconciliation. The project examines the history of the fifteen-year conflict, as experienced by persons involved, in light of ecumenical literature. A vision of union as household, proposed by Konrad Raiser, provides the template for renewed relationship.
