- Abstract
- This paper raises a ministerial question: What is the appropriate leadership role of the parish priest in social justice issues? the search for an answer prompted a project at a Boston area parish. Work with the parish's Christian Service Task Force prompted research leading to the use of a pastoral letter by Bishop Howard Hubbard, and to Robert Greenleaf's Servant leadership. A synthesis of these sources produced a role description of the parish priest as that of affirming, coordinating and facilitating the lay ministry by fulfilling a 'first among equals' role in the context of the parish council. After analysis of the notion, added reflection is invited.
