  • By applying biblical, historical and theological contexts for understanding the meaning of confirmation, this project proposes that Christian initiation is vital for the formation of disciples. The practice of confirmation in a local church provided the setting for the project, conducted over a 13-week period with persons between adolescence and adulthood. Confirmation preparation helped to identify principles that can be meaningful in the practice of confirmation, specifically the relationship of confirmation to baptism; how confirmation empowers a person to continue to live in covenant relationship with Jesus Christ and the church; and the value of mentoring in confirmation ministry.
