Abstract
  • The author explores the hermeneutic method of biblical narrative, and composition of sermons on narrative genre. The biblical literature discussed in this dissertation centers on hermeneutics and exegesis of biblical narrative. The author anticipates that the work presented here provides a set of fundamental, reliable measures to interpret His word, thereby enabling preachers to study the Scripture from a literary perspective. In addition to deepening our insights into the Scripture, literary criticism also provides important value to composing sermons. One needs to note that applying literary criticism to sermons entails developing an accurate methodology to evaluate the narrative. The dissertation uses the story of Jacob in Genesis 25-35 as an illustration of a literature approach to understanding the Bible.
