  • This study examines the effectiveness of pastoral relations committees in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Indiana. The research involved a Likert-type questionnaire, open-ended comments and personal interviews (39) completed by a combined total of 204 persons, 60 pastors and 144 lay persons. The study demonstrates that the pastoral relations committees are an effective means of support and feedback for ministry and serve, secondarily, but helpfully, in the area of personnel matters. The pastoral relations committees theological framework relies heavily upon 'unconditional acceptance'. The author recommends further theological development focused on the stewardship of gifts. Training needs and educational resources are identified.
