Abstract
  • This project examines current theological thought in lay ministry. Authors who had written on this subject in the past five years were consulted. The thesis also examined definitions and directions through a questionnaire mailed out to five hundred protestant churches representing three Lutheran 'evangelical' denominations. The thesis was tested through the efforts of a lay ministry team. This group arrived at a definition of lay ministry and implemented their ministry through several case studies which are presented. The thesis shows that if the laity and clergy can reach a consensus of definition of ministry, very satisfactory results can be obtained both within the local parish and in the local community.
