- This thesis states that the consultation process of the United Methodist Church, a process related to the itineracy, must be connected to the church's mission. The problem stated is that currently the two processes are alienated from the church's mission as a result of institutionalism. The method of research was to gather information from three major fields: sociology, history, and theology/ecclesiology. The research substantiated the existence of institutionalism and its negative effect upon consultation and the itineracy. In turn, study revealed the need for connecting the two to the local church and its mission for effective functioning.
