- Abstract
- Baptist Christians and churches which are voluntarily affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina are the largest religious body in the state in terms of membership, financial resources, and cultural influence. Despite this fact, there is no accessible, up to date source of recorded history. This dissertation attempts to address that need. This will be done by writing a concise history of North Carolina Baptists that will condense over three hundred years into thirty pages. Following this, a script will be written in order to convert this concise history into a video for our image conscious culture. A deficiency in understanding of North Carolina Baptist history will be documented using two tools. One, a survey of the ministerial employees of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina will be compared with the same survey given to key leaders in North Carolina Baptist life. A second tool used will be phone interviews with leading Baptist educators and historians at institutions of higher learning in North Carolina supported by North Carolina Baptists. Although this dissertation does not have as its goal the actual production of a video, it will document the steps taken to move toward such a goal.
