Abstract
  • This project works under the premise that all congregations have a narrative story to tell which offers far more insight than statistical documentation alone. Eight Black Episcopal congregations in the Diocese of Texas were engaged in tracing their history on three levels: historical timelines, historical documents and photographs, and narrative histories as recorded in interviews. The timelines, historical documents, and pictures offer an historical context for understanding these eight Black Episcopal churches. But without the interviews, the spirit, the moral character, and the uniqueness of the people in each of these congregations could easily be missed.
