  • The research defines the particular identity of the parish pastor who does counseling. It examines: 1) how a pastor views the counselee(s); 2) the difference between pastoral care, pastoral counseling and non-Christian therapy; and 3) what is distinctively 'pastoral' about pastoral counseling in the parish and elsewhere. Part 2 of the paper deals with four actual counseling cases. In each case the unique theoretical aspects of pastoral counseling are applied practically. These cases deal with: 1) depression, 2) family systems, 3) exhibitionism, 4) schizoid personality and family systems. Each of these four case-studies is examined from a psychological perspective and then translated into a theological perspective.
