  • The thesis of this doctoral project is that the 1993 Presbyterian funeral rite is a service of lament and witness to the resurrection. The project studies the form and movement of lament psalms and offers five theological insights. It traces the development of the Presbyterian rite in the United States and examines its liturgical shape and theology. It examines the various texts of the rite and assesses the extent to which they provide opportunity of lament. It concludes by suggesting how the rite might provide even more opportunity for lament and exploring five implications for ministry with the grieving.
