Ministry to a person dying of cancer is anxiety producing, spiritually challenging and psychologically draining. The pastor needs to grasp the subtle complexities in that relationship to that person, the dimensions of ministry present in care, in understanding, in conscience, in grace and the advocacy role the pastor can play in resolving issues. The toll of this ministry on the pastor's own spiritual and psychological being is discussed in detail. In ministering to a person at the end of their life we not only minister to but we will also be ministered to beyond our most profound expectation. The task is both challenging and the journey uncharted. Methodology was case study, verbatim recordings, interviews and academic research. This ministry will cause pastors to struggle with their own theology of death and resurrection, self-awareness, skills, creativity, and their own steadfastness to be faithful pastors to those who will begin a journey beyond their understanding which may give insight in Luther's statement: 'It was through his death that death itself was put to death'.
