  • The purpose of this study was to measure perceived burnout among a group of Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) pastors, initiate an intervention to treat burnout and analyze its effectiveness. A perception-test instrument was used to measure perceived burnout among eighty SDA pastors in southern California. Demographic data was also gathered to compare various factors' effects on burnout perception. Six pastors were invited to a three-day 'spiritual disciplines retreat.' Follow-up testing of both 'retreatants' and 'non-retreatants' was compared to test whether such an intervention had reduced perceived burnout among the test group. A decrease in perceived levels of burnout was recorded among retreatants compared with non-retreatants.
