- The growing concern among churches as it relates to the aging of congregational membership and the diminished participation of young adults in the life of the church prompted this writer's attempt to discern why that was so. Within the context of the congregation this writer serves, he sought to structure a conversation among young adults currently active within the church and those without through surveys and interviews. The conclusions reached: the reasons for separation from the church are many and varied, from experiencing conflict while attending church to perceived irrelevance; being willing to have conversation that is meaningful and important; and that there is an important and pivotal role for congregations to play in providing a nurturing community.
