  • Baptism is so foundational to the Christian faith and to the life of the New Testament church that it may be said to embrace everything else. This thesis explores the contention that baptism is central to New Testament faith and is the core from which all else evolves. The pastoral ministry, given by Christ and operating by his authority, is a baptismal ministry to a community of baptized. The faith and practices of that community are accountable to and illumined by the doctrine of baptism. This thesis is an effort in both historical and biblical theology.
