Abstrait

The project trains and equips the elders of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to be partners in ministry. The project includes the recruitment of the elders and their training via retreat, support groups, and a caring ministry workshop. Through this training the elders are: acquainted with a biblical understanding of eldership as a ministerial office along with providing two views (McGarvey and Errett) of eldership from the Disciple tradition; to train the elders in various areas of ministry; to provide opportunities for the elders in the ministry of the congregation; and to commission the elders in the ministry of their choice. The project provides opportunities for prayer and reflection upon their role in the mission and ministry of the congregation. Drawing upon this experience, the elders engaged in training others for this caring ministry. The project provides for the continuation of the elders' partnership in ministry as leaven within the church to foster and nurture the desire to be a part of the ministry of the local church.
