The author led the churches of the Aalen-Schnaitheim United Methodist Charge in southern Germany through a process of visioning, goal setting, and restructuring of leadership in an attempt to move the churches from a survival mentality to a growth mentality. Contemporary German and American authors in church growth were critiqued for their theological integrity and applied to the charge's context. The congregations were able to show increased vitality as measured by church attendance, offerings, leadership, and program.
