  • Congregations can become entrenched in their past and put up barriers to the changing neighborhood around them, becoming captive and estranged to their community. That is the setting of this project. Based on interiviews, photographs, and case studies with Knox Presbyterian Church's attempts at practicing hospitality with its neighborhood, this project demonstrates the 'proslambano' in Romans 14-15: that welcoming the strangers of the neighborhood, and the church inviting themselves into the homes of their neighbors as servants, liberates both to experience God's reconciling love. The essay concludes with the hopes and challenges of Knox's future and offers suggestions for churches interested in practicing hospitality.
