- Abstract
- The thesis of this project was that lay persons can be recruited and trained for caregiving ministries. Case studies and verbatims supplemented class presentations. The ten participants prepared additional studies from visits to inactive and prospective members, shut-ins and persons in crisis and grief. Pre- and post-event instruments and interviews supplemented the evaluation data. Significant changes in the understanding and practice of caregiving as ministry were noted. The author used biblical images of the servant and the shepherd along with theological (Buber, Whitehead, Luther and Tillich) and psychological (Paul Johnson and Carl Rogers) bases to support his research into caregiving and ministry.
