The project enabled laypersons to 'care and respond effectively' to persons undergoing situational crises. Seven persons were trained for nine weeks in caregiving skills, crisis recognition, theological backgrounds, and self-understanding. Six sermons focused the congregation on the Christian's response to various human needs. The project resulted in personal growth and self-awareness for those equipped as crisis caregivers. The development of the crisis care team multiplied the ministry of the professional clergy. Simultaneously, the congregation gained an awareness of humanity's need for care and the theological rationale for such care.
