Abstract
  • This work will focus on the positive impact of a multi-cultural family community center's faith-based initiative on the lives of children, youth and their families in the economically depressed poor urban neighborhood of Brockton, MA. It will attempt to show the systemic problems that led to the decline of the neighborhood and the resulting negative effect this has had on children, youth and their families, psychologically and physiologically as well as socially, educationally, economically, and spiritually. the thesis topic poses the question, What is the importance of building a faith-based initiative in a poor oppressed urban neighborhood? The answer is rooted in the primary premise that a faith-based initiative is important to the healthy development of children, youth and their families, and should have a positive effect on transforming lives, mending family relationships, and bring healing and restoration to a physically ailing neighborhood beginning with the very young.
