  • Lutherans have not traditionally preached on Psalm texts, preferring instead to use them as liturgical responses to other texts and themes. Using a year-long sermon series based on the Psalms, the thesis shows that one can meaningfully tell the whole story of Jesus Christ as our faith is modeled to us in the Apostles Creed. Such sermons also use the original search for meaning that each Psalm represents to help today's Christian community invoke God's presence in our joy and crises. Parish feedback groups and processes indicate that the Psalms sermons provide new insights for lay ministry and spiritual development as well as for significant collegial involvement. Theological reflection relates these developments to Avery Dulles' understanding of revelation as mediating symbol.
