- The thesis of this project is that at-risk youth can benefit from a mentor that is appropriately equipped to minister to their specific needs. Relationships are essential to the proper maturation and growth of an individual. Unfortunately, at-risk youth fail to experience positive, nurturing connections with significant adults in their lives. Mentors have a valuable opportunity to demonstrate to a young person these lacking qualities through an intimate relationship of mutual trust. This project focuses on leading a group of adults through the beginning stages of forming a mentoring relationship with a young person susceptible to self-deprecating behavior without intervention. The process is based on a biblical rationale and incorporates elements from sociology and adult learning theory.
