  • Preachers are to call listeners to obedient response to God's Word. What steps are pastors taking to help listeners put the preached Word into practice? Pastors of the Southeastern District of the Evangelical Free Church of America were polled to determine what actions they take before, during, and after preaching to facilitate listener response. Findings revealed strength in sermon preparation, construction, and delivery. Preachers indicated weakness, however, in developing the call for response and subsequent follow-through. Few pastors provided opportunity for listeners to plan and practice personal change. Respondents did express willingness to try new forms of response.
