  • The issue with which this project is concerned is the place of the ministry of pastoral counseling within the Pentecostal tradition. The focus of attention will be on the Church of God which is the oldest, continuing Pentecostal denomination in the United States. The premise of this thesis is that a theology of pastoral counseling is found within the Wesleyan tradition by which the Holiness and Pentecostal movements were shaped. Study of the historical theology of these traditions yield the conclusion that pastoral counseling is both a legitimate and effective healing ministry for the Pentecostal movement.
