Abstract
  • Divorce, like the death of a loved one, is a loss which creates grief and must be worked through creatively if 'new' is to be possible for the griever. Helping divorced persons with remarriage is a pastoral opportunity. Guided by sociological and psychological insights and realities and biblical teachings about both divorce and marriage and using the acknowledged stages of grief, this thesis creates a three-part model for assisting the pastor in assessing the grief experienced during and following a divorce, enabling the pastor to evaluate that couple's readiness to proceed to counseling in preparation for Christian marriage.
