  • The author examined ten urban United Church of Canada congregations which were formed through an amalgamation of two or more churches. Four persons from each congregation were surveyed to discern their thoughts and feelings concerning the amalgamative process. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, this study concluded that a strong theological base, time and events to build a strong relational base and sensitivity to issues of the ecclesiastical economy such as name, staff and property are the dynamics necessary for a successful merger.
