- Abstract
- In response to a perceived need for greater vocational awareness of members, River Forest United Methodist Church (River Forest, Illinois) conducted monthly after-worship forums involving dialogue in triad groups. Six lay persons shared their vocational journeys in relation to work, lifestyle, and their calling in the Body of Christ. They were prepared by classes, group meetings, and pastoral sermons and dialogue. Evocative questions developed thinking about vocational meaning. The project was grounded in biblical and ethical thought about vocation, psychological research in speech as commitment, and faith development through educational methodology. The project increased vocational consciousness measured by opinionnaire responses of participants and non-participants.
