  • This research project focused on designing and developing an encourager program to assist individuals evangelized by Willow Drive Baptist Church (Lake Jackson, Texas) to become active church members. A sermon series identifying what constitutes active church membership was presented to the congregation; a pretest-posttest opinionnaire was used to determine its effectiveness. The author developed a model encourager program which included a membership committee and an eight-session encourager training course. The effectiveness of the course was measured by the experimental method. Test results revealed a significant improvement in the participants' ability to assist new converts to become active church members.
