  • This project takes a womanist approach to the problem of unnecessary suffering, seeking to develop a Womanist Corrective Curriculum (WCC) as a solution. The WCC presents lessons designed to amend sexist teachings with corrective love that enables one to care for and support another, but not at the loss of self. The project tests the WCC in a diverse group of black Christian women assembled for five sessions exploring self-development, methods of building healthy bonds with other women, and investigation of sexism in the Scriptures, contemporary literature, and personal lives. The project demonstrated that suffering due to sexist Christian teaching abounds in the lives of black Christian women, and concluded that the WCC should be expanded and taught on an ongoing basis.
