Abstract
  • This study tests the hypothesis that the 1973 reorganization of the United Presbyterian Church in the USA was not effectively implemented in the Presbytery of Southeastern Illinois and produces recommendations for the presbytery in light of the conclusions drawn. The methodology includes a study of the pertinent records of related judicatories and their agents, interviews of knowledgeable persons, a survey of presbyters using a standard instrument and a comparative statistical analysis of membership and financial data. The study concludes that the hypothesis is only partially sustained and makes eight recommendations to achieve a more effective implementation.
